Position Overview
The Shop Lead Technician is responsible for leading day-to-day operations in our heavy-duty repair shop, ensuring all equipment is serviced safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong technical expertise in diesel and heavy equipment repair, along with the ability to lead and support a team of technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily shop workflow for heavy-duty trucks and equipment
- Lead, mentor, and support technicians to ensure timely and accurate repairs
- Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and complex repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and drivetrains
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company, DOT, and manufacturer standards
- Prioritize jobs and manage turnaround times to meet customer and operational needs
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment in compliance with safety regulations
- Assist in parts ordering, inventory control, and equipment maintenance
- Communicate with service advisors, management, and customers regarding job status and technical issues
- Train and onboard new technicians; promote continuous skill development
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in heavy-duty truck or equipment repair (diesel experience required)
- Previous leadership or foreman experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, air brake systems, and electrical diagnostics
- Familiarity with DOT inspection standards and preventive maintenance programs
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred, depending on role)
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, OEM training) are a plus

- Exposure to noise, grease, and varying temperatures
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required

The Shop Support Technician plays a key role in keeping shop operations running smoothly by assisting lead technicians and mechanics with daily tasks. This position supports repairs, maintains shop organization, and ensures tools, equipment, and parts are readily available. It’s an excellent entry point for individuals looking to grow into a heavy-duty or diesel technician role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist technicians with basic maintenance and repair tasks on heavy-duty trucks and equipment
- Prepare work areas, tools, and materials needed for jobs
- Move vehicles and equipment in and out of the shop safely
- Perform routine tasks such as fluid checks, tire inspections, and preventive maintenance support
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, yard, and workstations
- Manage parts, supplies, and inventory (receive, label, stock, and distribute)
- Operate shop equipment such as forklifts or service trucks (if qualified)
- Dispose of waste materials in accordance with safety and environmental regulations
- Follow all company safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE
- Support technicians and leadership with additional tasks as needed
